Project Overview

Managing health information for multiple family members is challenging. Important documents get lost, medication schedules are forgotten, and critical information isn't available during emergencies.

HealthHub centralizes family health management in one secure mobile app, helping caregivers stay organized and ensuring no one misses important medications or appointments.

The Challenge

Families, especially those caring for children and elderly parents, struggle with scattered health information across paper documents, photos, and multiple apps.

How might we help families manage health information for multiple members in a way that's centralized, secure, and easily accessible?

Research Insights

To understand user needs, I conducted a combination of secondary research and informal conversations with family caregivers.

Methods:

  • Informal interviews with working parents and adult children caring for elderly relatives
  • Analysis of existing health apps (MyTherapy, Medisafe, CareZone)
  • Read articles about family health care problems

Key insights:

  • Families use scattered methods to store medical information (paper, photos)
  • Medication adherence suffers when managing multiple profiles
  • Emergency situations lack quick access to critical data
  • Existing solutions focus on individuals, not family management
  • Caregivers need centralized systems with smart reminders

These findings validated the need for a caregiver-focused family health management solution.

User Personas

To build a realistic and user-centered solution, I developed detailed personas based on secondary research and analysis of common pain points in family health management.

Design Process

I mapped out the app structure prioritizing quick access and minimal navigation depth.

Key Decisions:

  • Bottom tab navigation (Today, Calendar, Members, Profile)
  • Horizontal family member selector for instant context switching
  • Floating action buttons (+) for quick additions

Main Iterations:

  • Added time-based vertical timeline for medication tracking
  • Implemented prominent avatar row for easy member switching
  • Designed intuitive modals for adding medications and appointments
  • Created clear visual states for completed vs. pending tasks

Wireframes

I created low and high-fidelity wireframes to test different approaches before finalizing the design.

Key Explorations:

  • Navigation patterns: Tested hamburger menu, bottom tabs, and gestures → Selected bottom tabs for accessibility
  • Family switching: Explored dropdown vs. carousel → Chose horizontal carousel for visual clarity
  • Medication layout: Simple list vs. timeline → Implemented time-based timeline for better context
  • Add flows: Full-screen forms vs. modals → Used modals to keep users in context
